Celebrating World Mangrove Day, Eco Tourism Bali Plants 410 Mangrove Seedlings to Strengthen Bali’s Coastal Resilience

Mangroves are more than just a part of Bali’s coastline. They play an important role in protecting shorelines, supporting biodiversity, and absorbing significant amounts of carbon. However, mangrove ecosystems continue to face various pressures, from climate change and pollution to human activities that threaten the sustainability of coastal ecosystems.

Recognising this challenge, Eco Tourism Bali once again invited the hospitality industry to take part in meaningful environmental action through the Regenerative Bali Program: Mangrove Planting, held to commemorate World Mangrove Day.

Taking place on 31 July 2026, the initiative brought different stakeholders together not only to discuss sustainability, but also to turn shared commitments into action on the ground.

From Commitment to Meaningful Action

The initiative was a collaboration between Eco Tourism Bali, Sakala Resort Bali, Soulshine Bali, Cademo Coffee, and Esther, with Apple Developer Academy Bali supporting the activity as a Community Partner.

A total of 35 participants from different sectors took part in the activity, collectively planting 410 mangrove seedlings. The planting was part of an effort to restore coastal ecosystems while strengthening the implementation of regenerative tourism in Bali.

For Eco Tourism Bali, initiatives like this demonstrate that sustainability should go beyond commitments and statements. Meaningful collaboration and direct participation are essential to turning sustainability principles into tangible impact for both the environment and local communities.

Since 2022, Eco Tourism Bali’s Regenerative Bali Program has collaborated with various partners and contributed to the planting of 9,410 mangrove seedlings to help protect Bali’s coastline.

Planting Mangroves, Growing Commitment

For Rahmi Fajar Harini, Co-Founder of Eco Tourism Bali, World Mangrove Day is an opportunity to strengthen collective commitment while raising awareness among more stakeholders about the importance of Nature-Based Solutions.

“For Eco Tourism Bali, World Mangrove Day is about commitment and sustainability. We will continue planting and educating stakeholders about Nature-Based Solutions. We are here to build a legacy where tourism can also create a positive impact on the environment.”

Through mangrove planting, regenerative action goes beyond restoring nature. It also contributes to strengthening the resilience of coastal ecosystems against the impacts of climate change.

Advancing Nature-Positive Tourism

The initiative is also part of Eco Tourism Bali’s commitment to advancing nature-positive tourism, an approach that goes beyond reducing tourism’s negative environmental impacts and actively contributes to nature regeneration, biodiversity protection, and stronger ecosystem resilience.

Looking ahead, Eco Tourism Bali hopes more organisations and businesses will recognise environmental action as an important part of their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainability strategies.

Building a sustainable tourism industry cannot be achieved by one organisation alone. It requires collaboration between the industry, communities, organisations, and various stakeholders to create meaningful and lasting change.
