Tatler Asia – Beneath its magical beauty that captivates the world, Bali now stands at a crossroads. Land conversion, waste management challenges, and the looming threat of climate change are all testing the Island of the Gods’ sustainability. Yet, amid these challenges, optimism is rife on the shores of Sanur. Hotels, restaurants, and local communities are now moving in unison, transforming tourism from a mere commercial industry to a recovery movement rooted in compassion.
This restoration commitment is realised in the grand event of The Meru Eco Tourism Week 4th Edition, which will take place on May 30-31, 2026. Held within the splendor of the Bali Beach Convention Center, Sanur, the event initiated by Eco Tourism Bali together with The Meru Sanur and Wonderful Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Industry Forum carries a big theme that stirs the soul: “Tourism as a Force for Good: Regenerating Bali Together”.
The convention is sure to be lively with lively, visionary dialogues. The event, scheduled to be attended by the Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia , Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, will share together stories from various stakeholders from academics and sustainable business players to the younger generation. Various interactive programs are also planned, including the Eco Business Pitch showcasing environmentally friendly innovations and the Eco Climate Badge Award, a token of appreciation for hotels and restaurants verified to have implemented tangible and measurable sustainability initiatives.
However, the true essence of regenerative tourism lies in direct action that touches the earth. Ahead of this major event, coinciding with World Turtle Day, a warm, emotional atmosphere enveloped the Sanur coastline. The Meru Sanur, along with Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, collaborated with the Turtle Conservation and Education Center to host the second release of Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings.
