Coral Planting Project in Padangbai

Bali, ecotourismbali.com – June 1, 2023, Eco Tourism Bali (ETB) held a Sustainable Corporate Event in collaboration with Shizen International. Sustainable Corporate Event is the process of implementing events that have elements of responsibility, greening, environmentally friendly, corporate social responsibility, ecology, eco-friendly, social, culture and economy. The Sustainable Corporate Event activities carried out by ETB planting coral reefs in Padangbai, Karangasem Regency, East Bali. Coral reefs are underwater ecosystem characterized by reef-building corals. Reefs are formed of colonies of coral polyps held together by calcium carbonate. Most coral reefs are built from stony corals, whose polyps cluster in groups. Its existence is extremely important for the environment. This event was attended by 48 participants from various countries, such as Japan, Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, India and other countries.

“The program we are carrying out with Shizen International is our newest program called Sustainable Corporate Event with a tribe called Earth Guardian, where Eco Tourism Bali partners with a company to carry out the same mission to protect and preserve the environment,” says Rahmi Fajar Harini, Co-Founder & COO Eco Tourism Bali. Furthermore, Rahmi says that the implementation of this activity was in collaboration with companies that had credibility in their field, namely monitoring and the impact that was obtained from this activity. This activity is not only ceremonial, but this is a regular activity that we will collaborate with partners who help us as Earth Guardians and each of these activities will also be carried out monitoring and evaluation for the impact to be achieved by monitoring corals for a year.

Participants take part in workshop activities held by Livingseas as a partner of Eco Tourism Bali. This training aims to educate participants about the current condition of coral reef ecosystems which have experienced a lot of damage both due to human activities and naturally the effects of climate change and for restoring coral reefs. The participants planted coral seeds on the provided coral reef stars and later carried out restoration on the seabed. The coral planting activity done by Livingseas divers and Rahmi from Eco Tourism Bali, while the participants were snorkeling.

Apart from that, local people also participate in selling various souvenirs. During the event, there is no plastic. Starting from packing snacks using besek made from bamboo, and also participants are required to bring their own tumblers where the organizers provide refill stations so participants can refill drinking water.

“I hope this event can collaborate with various partners and become Earth Guardians. We cannot do this activity alone, so we are open to collaboration and do environmental mission together,” says Rahmi. Moreover, Rahmi says more and more people will care about environmental preservation, especially coral reef conservation.
